Congratulations to the following BPA individuals and teams for placing at the state leadership competition and advancing to nationals in Chicago May 10-14.

Computer Animation Team took 1st Place consisting of Jacob Schnotala, CJ Dunn, & Koen Holman Video Production Team took 2nd Place consisting of Elliot Fischer, Bryce Parish & Xavier Maldonado Chris Farhat took 3rd place in Device Configuration & Troubleshooting Caleb Tyson took 3rd place in Python Programming In addition, the following students were recognized on stage and are alternates for Nationals: Shelton Guthrie - Fundamentals of Web Design 7th place Veer Saini - Extemporaneous Speech 5th place


Congratulations to Nadine Kuzinski for earning first place with her group at the ProStart competition in the “Table Top Design” category.

Among the many requirements, the team had to develop a menu, create a table setting, and answer a battery of questions while presenting their product, which needed to conform to the “Mitten Made” theme. For their creativity and attention to detail, Nadine’s team earned a two-night stay for a culinary workshop at the Grand Hotel in Mackinac Island.

What is World Down Syndrome Day?

World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD) , 21 March, is a global awareness day which has been officially observed by the United Nations since 2012.

The date for WDSD being the 21st day of the 3rd month, was selected to signify the uniqueness of the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome which causes Down syndrome. https://www.worlddownsyndromeday.org/

Assessment for Learning Updates:

Spring Break 2024 is a week away. When we return, we will immediately begin conducting state testing for our 9th - 11th grade students on April 16th. There are no scheduled classes or testing for the 12th grade students on April 16th. Seniors will still report to school on this day and will complete the Michigan Department of Education required CPR training. Letter to Senior Parent/students CPR/AED training

Scholarships

Seniors - keep applying for scholarships! Scholarship lists by due date can be found on our financial aid and scholarships page.

FAFSA is open. College-bound seniors should complete the 24-25 FAFSA to determine your eligibility for college grants, scholarships, and loans.

***Seniors: A reminder that your graduation announcements, accessories & caps and gowns will be delivered at school on Monday, March 25th during lunch. If you owe a balance, please make sure that it is paid in full prior to delivery day. To pay off your balance you may do so online or by calling Jostens at 616-330-2141. If you plan to make final payment on delivery day at school, only cash (correct change please) or money orders can be accepted. Checks cannot be accepted for final payment at school. Please make sure that you stop by to pick up your items. If you still have not placed an order for your graduation items, you need to do so as soon as possible at www.jostens.com.

Counseling Department Scheduling Reminders:

Students - if you still have your Course Request form for next year, please turn it in at the Counseling Office ASAP.

Happenings:

  • MiCareerQuest 2024: March 27, 2024 - Freshmen will attend this unique career exploration day that includes interactive experiences with local employers. A parent/guardian MUST fill out this google form

  • Senior Visit Day at MCC: May 6, 2024 - Save the date! Students will go through orientation, take placement tests, and meet with advisors to register for classes. Students must sign up to attend and have completed their application to Muskegon Community College to start Fall 2024. Watch for more information to come regarding the sign-up process.

General Updates and Reminders:

Extended Day Program: Monday - Thursday afterschool until 3:45 pm. Teachers and NHS tutors are available for support. Location is the HS Library Media Center. A great opportunity to work on collaborative projects, stay engaged in your learning and achieve your goals.

Athletic Department Information:

Big changes are starting during the High School Spring Season.

We will become cashless for the purchase of tickets to all Athletic Events that charge admission. There are 3 ways to purchase tickets: 1. Use the website gofan.co and search for Mona Shores 2. Use the QR Codes that are posted at entrance gates and found here 3. Use of Credit/Debit Cards at the gate. We look forward to this change and the ease it will provide you as the fans at our events!

Class of 2024 Senior Celebration Information:

Registration for the Senior Celebration post graduation party is now available.

Beginning January 2, 2024 the price is $85 . Deadline to register is May 17, 2024. See registration form HERE for more details. If you have not signed up for the parent communication email list, please do so HERE. If you’d like to join the parent Facebook group or want to share the group with another parent, you can access the Facebook page HERE.

Senior Celebration is a time-honored tradition where parents of the Senior Class put together a fun "all-night" experience for the graduating class. The event location is a SURPRISE to students and is usually a 45-60 minute bus trip away. Students will leave directly after graduation and parents will be notified at that time of the surprise location. Senior Celebration provides not only a fun and safe experience for our students the night they graduate, it also creates great memories for years to come!
