“Believe & Belong” Day at MSHS
The first Friday of the school year was a big one at Mona Shores High School as our students had a variety of engaging and purposeful activities throughout the day.
9th & 10th graders viewed the “Screenagers” documentary, connected with the link leaders, and attended an extracurricular organization expo.
11th & 12th grade students also viewed the documentary in addition to attending a college, career, and apprenticeship fair with 40 different organizations.
The half day of school ended with our annual opening day assembly where we introduced the 2026-27 theme “Power of Belief.” Senior Nick Kreps spoke about the importance of believing in oneself and the choir selection, You Will Be Found, reinforced the theme. All-in-all, students walked away with a clearer picture of their postgraduate pathway as well as being a part of their school community.

Today all of our students participated in the viewing of Screenagers. A film created to start the conversations of the impact of screen time on adolescents. And how cell phone use impacts the functioning of the brain, relationships, sleep, engagement, mental health, self image and addiction. Students reflected on their daily habits. For more information checkout the resources found at Screenagers Movie

Each hour our staff reviewed the 5 core values along with activities, examples, policies and discussion of the expectations we have for one another. Thank you to our School Leadership team who created the PRIDE lessons. This team is composed of teachers from each department, student reps., board of education reps., SRO, Parent rep., and administration.
Cell Phone Law new to Michigan but not new to Mona Shores High School.
Michigan has enacted a new state law (HB 4141) requiring public school districts to ban student, handheld, wireless communication device use during instructional time, starting in the 2026-27 school year, while still allowing phones during lunch or passing time. MSHS has had this policy in place prior to this school year. Each classroom has a cell phone caddy. Students may use their cell phones at lunch and during passing time.
MSHS Cell phone Policy:
Cell phones are not allowed to be used in the classroom. Phones are to be placed in the caddy/locker. Phones may only be used during lunch/passing time. If a student violates this policy:
1st Offense - Turn device into caddy & after school detention
2nd Offense - Turn device into caddy & $20 fine and parent contact
3rd Offense - Loss of privilege, office collects the phone, parent contact/behavior contract, student picks it up from the office.
