Every spring, the Mona Shores varsity baseball team travels to Pensacola, Florida to stay sharp for the upcoming season.  Spring in Michigan is as likely to bring about a snowstorm as it is a playable day for baseball, so this trip is very often the first opportunity the team has to get in quality practice time prior to their conference schedule.  It is also a week when the team can develop comradery both on and off the field.

The first two days at Pensacola Catholic Central High School were practice days that ended on an intrasquad scrimmage on day two.  Things ramped up on day three when the boys took on Grand Rapids Northview in a double-header scrimmage during the day and spent the night watching PCC play against Gulf Breeze High School.  It was practices and intrasquad scrimmages for the last three days, but the guys were able to enjoy a team dinner with parents on the fourth night of the trip and an unplanned visit from the Blue Angels during practice on day number five.

The week of work seemed to do the trick as the boys came back from the trip to sweep Holland in a three game series in their first round of OK Green conference play.  The undefeated Sailors will take on Wyoming next in conference play before turning their attention to their home tournament on Saturday, April 22nd when the boys will play host Mt. Pleasant, Jenison, and Traverse City St. Francis.  Games will take place at 10:00 am and 12:00 pm at both Mona Shores High School and Marsh Field.
