FAFSA Last year 88% of the FAFSA information was filed electronically. It is now mandatory to do the online version available at www.fafsa.ed.gov Most have found that the online version is quicker and easier to use and make corrections than the paper version. Parents and Students must apply for a PIN number to be able to provide an Electronic Signature. See instructions at the site above. A few paper versions of the FAFSA will be available in the Counseling Office starting in December. THERE WILL BE A FINANCIAL AID MEETING FOR PARENTS MONDAY JAN 12 2009 AT 7:00 PM IN THE MEDIA CENTER. 2009/2010 COMMUNITY FOUNDATION FOR MUSKEGON COUNTY GENERAL SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION will be available beginning November 1. 2008 at www.cffmc.org. Click on “Scholarships” then on “How to apply.” Online application deadline is” March 1, 2009 MEA SCHOLARSHIP: Applications are available in the Counseling Office or online at www.mea.org (link located in Conferences & grants). Academic excellence and extra-curricular activities are considered, with some preference given to students related to MEA members. Application deadline is February 18, 2009.
McKelvey Foundation Entrepreneurial Scholarship Award—$10,000 per year for 4 years to any US college is available to all high school seniors who have demonstrated entrepreneurial spirit by owning and operating their own business while in high school (not based on academic achievement or financial need). Applicants must graduate in 2009, attend a 4-year college within the 50 states, own and operate a genuine business with at least one paid employee, and complete online application by January 25, 2009. Apply online at www.mckelveyfoundation.org and click on the Entrepreneurial Scholarship section. AAA SCHOOL SAFETY PATROL SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM: Students must show documented proof of AAA Michigan School Safety Patrol program participation, good academic standing, and a strong record of involvement in the community and / or extra curricular activities. Students must also note what their Safety Patrol experience taught them or meant to them. Applications are available in the Counseling Office and are due by April 1, 2009. AMERICAN LEGION: GUY M. WILSON SCHOLARSHIPS: Child, grandchild, or great-grandchild of a veteran (living or deceased). Minimum of 2.5 gpa and financial need. Application at www.michiganlegion.org and is due in mid-January.AMERICAN LEGION AUXILIARY: Daughters, granddaughters, and great-granddaughters of any honorably discharged or deceased men or women veterans. Award based on need and scholastic standing to study at any MI college. Applications at www.michalaux.org (after Nov. 15th) and due April 1, 2009. NATIONAL PRESIDENT’S SCHOLARSHIP—AMERICAN LEGION: One scholarship for children of veterans who have also completed 50 hours of community service during high school. Application available at www.michalaux.org (after Nov. 15th) and due March 1, 2009.
GATES MILLENNIUM SCHOLARS PROGRAM: One thousand students (nationwide) who meet these qualifications will be selected: African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American or Hispanic American; have an unweighted gpa of at least 3.3, have demonstrated leadership abilities through participation in community service, extracurricular, or other activities, meet the Federal Pell Grant eligibility criteria, and submit all three required forms online by the deadline January 12, 2009. SERVICE 1 FEDERAL CREDIT UNION CALVIN PETERSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP: Two $1000 scholarships to area students who are 1.) members or the child or grandchild of a member of Service 1 Federal Credit Union and 2.) will be enrolled in a 2 or 4 year college or university in the fall, 2009. Applications are available in the Counseling Office or online at www.service1fcu.com. The deadline is Feb. 1, 2009. CENTRAL MICHIGAN UNIVERSITY LEADER ADVANCEMENT SCHOLARSHIP: Those student leaders who have been admitted to CMU and have a minimum gpa of 3.0 may apply online at www.cmich.edu/leadership. Deadline: January 30, 2009. GERBER FOUNDATION MERIT SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM: $2000 scholarship for at least one Mona Shores senior. Maximum gpa is 3.7 (unweighted). IMAGINE AMERICA SCHOLARSHIP: This scholarship provides $1000 toward career education for graduating seniors, and our school many select three students to nominate, based on these criteria: likelihood of successful completion of postsecondary education, high school gpa of 2.5 or greater, financial need, and demonstrated voluntary community service during senior year. BILL GILL SCHOLARSHIP—MUSKEGON BRANCH OF N.AA.C.P.: Fivescholarships will be awarded locally to graduating seniors with a gpa of 2.0 orhigher. An essay is required, and applicants will be interviewed by the organization’s scholarship committee. Applications are available in the Counseling Office. Deadline to Counseling Office: January 16, 2009. THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY ALUMNI SCHOLARS PROGRAM:: A merit-based scholarship (minimum of $600) will be awarded to a student who is attending Ohio State University who: ranks in the top 25% (preferably top 10% of our high school graduation class, demonstrates involvement in school and community activities, and shows a sound interest and positive attitude toward college work. Application and details are available in the Counseling Office. Deadline: January 16, 2009. CALVIN COLLEGE HOWARD HUGHES MEDICAL INSITUTE SCHOLARSHIPS: $2500 each, renewable for four years. This scholarship is awarded to top students who intend to pursue a career in research and or post-secondary education in biology, chemistry, biochemistry, physics, or mathematics. MICHIGAN STATE UNIVERSITY COLLEGE OF EDUCATION ALUMNI ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP: $1000 to a senior who has been admitted to MSU and intends to pursue a career in K-12 education. WOMEN’S DIVISION, CHAMBER OF COMMERCE: Five $1000 scholarships will be given locally to students who will be attending Muskegon Community College or Baker College. Applications can be downloaded at WWW.WOMENSDIVISION.ORG. Criteria for selection are: cumulative gpa of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, must reside in Muskegon County, must plan to attend MCC or Baker College as a first or second year FULL time student, must submit a completed and signed application form with an official transcript of their grades. Postmark deadline: Feb. 20, 2009. Interviews: Tues., April 21 and Wed., April 22, 2009. MICHIGAN SOCIETY OF PROFESSIONAL ENGINEERS: 36 scholarships, valued up to $3000 annually, to high school seniors interested in pursuing an engineering degree at an accredited Michigan college or university. Applicants must be: accepted at a Michigan ABET accredited college or university and enrolled in an engineering program, be a resident of Michigan and US citizen, have a least a 3.0 gpa (4.0 scale) for the 10th and 11th grades, attain a minimum 26 ACT composite, and submit a list of senior classes and transcript with ACT scores with completed application. RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE CHARITIES SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM: Several different categories of scholarships are available with the intent to offer scholarships to students who face limited access to educational and career opportunities. Students must provide a transcript, a personal statement about their community involvement, career goals, and desire to contribute to their community, a letter of recommendation, and a current copy of the parents’ IRS 1040. Applications are available in the Counseling Office or at www.rmhc.org. Deadline: Feb. 16, 2009. AXA ACHIEVEMENT COMMUNITY SCHOLARSHIPS: $2000 scholarships for students with ambition and drive, determination to set and reach goals, respect for self, family and community, and the ability to succeed in college. EASTERN MICHIGAN UNIVERSITY ALUMNI ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP: This scholarship is for children and grandchildren of EMU alumni enrolling at Eastern Michigan University as freshmen, sophomores or transfer students for the fall 2009 semester. This $1250 scholarship is renewable for four consecutive years (maximum of $5000) provided the recipient meets the renewal criteria. Not based on financial need. MICHIGAN OIL & GAS PRODUCERS EDUCATION FOUNDATION: Applicants must have been accepted at a Michigan university or community college, have a minimum 3.0 gpa (computed on a 4.0 scale), and demonstrate financial need. The applicant must also be pursuing a degree in an energy related field of study with the ambition of seeking to obtain full-time employment in the oil and gas industry, an energy related industry, or an allied industry. Applications for these $500 scholarships are available in the Counseling Office or online at www.mogpef.org. Deadline: April 1. NALS OF MICHIGAN SCHOLARSHIP AWARD: One scholarship of $1000 to an individual enrolled, or planning to enroll, in a school of advanced education pursuing a degree in the legal field. The scholarship will be awarded based on scholastic or legal career achievements, future career goals, demonstration of financial need, and leadership ability. Student must have at least a B average, have 2 letters of recommendation, and write a one-page autobiographical statement. Application form is available in the Counseling Office. Deadline: January 15, 2009. AMERICAN UNIVERSITY FREDERICK DOUGLASS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM: For students attending American University, this scholarship is intended for those who are high achievers, have strong leadership potential, have demonstrated community service, and impressive co-curricular involvement. Nominees must also have at least a 3.2 gpa on a 4.0 scale, rank in the top half of their class, have satisfactory ACT scores, and be US citizens. Deadline: Jan. 15, 2009. FERRIS STATE UNIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIPS: There are several scholarships available for students attending FSU next fall.· Kelso Battle Scholarship--$4000 (renewable) for students in these programs: Industrial Environmental Health Management, Applied Mathematics, Biotechnology, Industrial Chemistry, Pre-Engineering, Computer Information Systems, or any 2 or 4 year degree programs in the College of Technology. Students in programs requiring a minimum of 60% of its course work from science, mathematics, and/or engineering related technology may also be considered. Deadline: May 1, 2009· Academic Opportunity Scholarship: $2000 per academic year (renewable), with preference given to minority students. Available to first-time entering freshmen at FSU. Minimum gpa of 3.0, letter of recommendation, and essay required. Deadline: May 1, 2009. · FIRST Robotics Scholarship: A merit-based scholarship to recognize the achievements of FIRST Robotics Completion and FIRST Vex Challenge participants.
