DAILY ANNOUNCEMENTS FRIDAY, OCTOBER 10, 2008 Attention juniors and seniors: Mona Shores Community Services is offering an ACT Preparation Workshop. This class will help you prepare to successfully take the test by showing you the format of the test and presenting specific strategies for dealing with each test section. Practice tests and helpful suggestions to pace yourself will be included in the workshop. The class will be held on Saturday, October 18th or on Saturday, November 22nd in the High School Media Center and the cost is $60, which includes a manual. For more information or to register, please pick up a flier in the Counseling Office or the Media Center or call 780-4748. Juniors: You could be a National Merit Scholar by taking the PSAT. This test will be administered on Wed., Oct. 15 from 7:30 - 11 a.m. in the auxiliary gym. The cost is $13 with checks payable to MSHS. See Mrs. Skocelas in the bookstore for payment and to receive your free practice booklet. For more information, check the high school's website or see your counselor. It's Spirit Week -- Show your Sailor Pride and get involved!! The 2008 Homecoming Dance is Friday after the football game against Holland High School and lasts until 11:00 p.m. Please stick around after the game for the crowning of this year's Homecoming King and Queen and then join us at the dance. The dance is informal, except for the homecoming court. Jeans and t-shirts are acceptable. Dance tickets will be sold beginning Wednesday during both lunches. The cost is $3 in advance or $5 at the door. You must have your id to purchase your ticket. PLEASE CHECK THE FEE AND FINES LIST POSTED ON THE OFFICE WINDOW. NO STUDENTS WILL BE PERMITTED TO PURCHASE A TICKET TO ATTEND THE DANCE IF THEIR NAME APPEARS ON THIS LIST WITHOUT PAYING THE FEE AND/OR FINE. Guest approval forms are available in the front office and must be returned to Mr. Weber before the beginning of school (7:40 a.m.) on Friday. Monday October 13th a representative from the Army will be here at 9:00, Thursday, October 16th Cornerstone at 7:45 and EMU at 9:00 and Friday, October 17th U of M at 9:15. Art Club will have an open studio on Monday, October 13 from 3 to 4:30. Mrs. Verstraete will be explaining Portfolio Day and will look over portfolios of students interested in attending. So, if you want to participate you will need to bring all of your artwork to Mrs. V's art room, 207, on Monday. There will also be a bead making demonstration. Bring anything you want to work on and enjoy the company of other artists at work. ATHLETIC ANNOUNCEMENTS Due to Homecoming, there will be no girls soccer conditioning on Friday. We will see you on Monday. Mona Shores will be hosting the first round of the MHSAA District Soccer Tournament on Monday, October 13th when the Sailors welcome cross-town rival Reeths-Puffer. Game time is 4:30 PM. All students are invited to attend and show their "Sailor Spirit." Cost for students is $2.00. Hope to see you there! Yesterday, at the Highlands Golf Club in Grand Rapids, the Girls Golf Team placed 3rd at regionals, which qualifies them for the State Finals at Eagle Crest G.C. at Eastern Michigan University next weekend. Top medallist yesterday was Junior Brooke Adamczak with an 87 and tied for 4th overall was Senior Kristina Raiz with a 92. Others playing were Seniors Lindsey Potter, Heather Halub and Ashley Firestone. Great job and good luck next week!!! Today in sports the varsity tennis team competes in Regionals at Grand Rapids Christian and the varsity football team will host Holland. Saturday the cross-country teams compete in the GMAA at Oakridge.
