Welcome to Churchill Elementary
Churchill Elementary has many programs that we are extremely proud of. Zoo-phonics provides teachers, parents and students with comprehensive, phonic materials, bringing fun and excitement to learning, motivating children and ensuring success. http://www.zoo-phonics.com/ Accelerated Math is a math program that monitors progress made in mathematics. It also provides individualized, prescriptive instruction for students who need either advanced challenges or more repetition. http://www.renlearn.com/mathrenaissance/ DIBELS The Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills (DIBELS) are a set of standardized, individually administered measures of early literacy development. They are designed to short (one minute) fluency measures used to regularly monitor the development of pre-reading and early reading skills. We are preparing for our second DIBELS progress monitoring. http://dibels.uoregon.edu/ Expanded Opportunities The Expanded Opportunities program is from 3:30-4:30 Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Expanded Opportunities is an after school option three teachers in our building provide every year. The three teachers are Mrs. Priebe, Mrs. McArthur and Mrs. Mullally. In order for a student to attend Expanded Opportunities the classroom teacher and parent must have a conversation and agree on whether or not their student should attend. Expanded Opportunities is not detention. The teachers who supervise it do answer questions and clarify issues. If you have any questions you can call Mrs. McArthur X8915, Mrs. Priebe X8929, Mrs. Mullally X8901 or Mr. Platt @ X8999. High-Five Lunch Mr. Platt will be drawing four student names out of a hat. The names will be drawn from the collection of names the office receives for high-fives. Due to the different lunch times for Lower EL and Upper EL, he will take Upper EL to lunch one month and Lower EL the next month. Because of this, student names will be kept in the drawing for two months. High-Fives are Churchill’s long-standing positive behavior recognition plan. When a student receives a high-five, we read them off on the news, post them on the office window, and mail them home to you. This won’t be a school lunch; it will be pizza or something along those lines. Of course, we will have alternative options for students who need to have something different due to food allergies.
