Measuring Success!

Student achievement remains our top priority at Mona Shores Public Schools. A combination of in-house, authentic, state provided assessments, and standardized assessments (DIBELS, STAR, MEAP, PLAN, EXPLORE, ACT, MME, and SAT) measure the curriculum’s effectiveness in providing students with the knowledge deemed essential by the Mona Shores Public Schools Board of Education, Michigan Department of Education, and the U.S. Department of Education (No Child Left Behind). Frequent progress reports and student achievement data analysis reports help identify areas needing further support in academics. The data provided by these reports measure the detail and depth of communication regarding student achievement with all stakeholders: parents, students, staff, the Mona Shores Board of Education, administrators, and community members.

At Mona Shores Public Schools it is important to recognize individual student achievement. Higher standards and greater expectations have resulted in the implementation of a variety of instructional methods, progressive teaching strategies, and specialized programs designed to respond to the individual needs and learning styles of a diverse student population. Our district is proud to provide quality professional development to all staff; in return, this provides the appropriate tools and teaching strategies that support our demanding academic schedule for Mona Shores students, including college-bound academics, a strong basic education, and real-world vocational/technical training. Within that training for staff are tools to access data that drill down to the individual learner. This precise information clarifies the mission and individual goals for the teacher on behalf of each student.

At Mona Shores we embrace the concept of a brain-compatible learning environment, recognizing that individuals learn at different rates of teaching/learning styles. Our curriculum makes provisions for the variability of academic skills, interests, and social, emotional, and physical development within our student population.

"High Achievement always takes place in the framework of high expectations."  ~ Jack Kinder

MI-Access Assessment

The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) requires that all students with disabilities be assessed at the state level. If the state's general assessment is not appropriate, even with assessment accommodations, the IEP Team must determine how the student will be assessed. In response to this legislation the Michigan State Board of Education approved the Michigan Educational Assessment System (MEAS). It has three components, Michigan Educational Assessment Program (MEAP), MI-Access and English Language Proficiency Assessment (ELPA). MI-Access is designed for students for whom the IEP Team has determined that the MEAP assessments, even with assessment accommodations, are not appropriate for the student. | Learn More... |
