Office of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment Annual Report 2006-07 | General Information | | District Student Achievement Two-Year Summary | | Grades 3-9 & Class of 2007 Student Achievement Summary | With increased expectations of all students preschool through twelfth grade, Mona Shores Public Schools moved forward on a number of fronts in the areas of core curriculum and district school improvement with the sole purpose of greater individual student learning. Three primary areas of focus included: -
curriculum mapping (What do we expect students to learn?), data warehousing of achievement results (How will we know when they have learned it?), and refinement of school improvement processes (What will be our response when students experience difficulty?).
These guiding questions are a framework for a system operating as a learning community of adults and students. Mona Shores Public Schools follows the Michigan Curriculum Frameworks in delivery of instruction, and staff are well-versed in the State-released GLCEs (Grade Level Content Expectations) in English Language Arts and mathematics for grades K-8. High school teachers received the new State Board-approved High School Course Expectations resulting from increased high school graduation requirements, beginning with the class of 2011. Recognizing the critical role of strong skill development prior to kindergarten, Mona Shores was well represented in the countywide examination of the State of Michigan Early Childhood Guidelines, released in 2005. Preschool teachers and elementary staff aligned district preschool curriculum with the new State guidelines, identifying curricular gaps and overlaps.
