Campbell Elementary is a neighborhood school located within the city of Roosevelt Park. It has had a strong tradition of parent and community involvement. Campbell Elementary has been able to maintain a stable enrollment through the School-of-Choice program. We have benefited from our School-of-Choice families as they bring strong parent involvement and a desire for their children to receive the best education possible. The Roosevelt Park Community and Campbell Elementary have teamed up to benefit all the children of our community. We have many opportunities in and around the school: from baseball (Roosevelt Park Youth Athletics) to tennis and basketball courts, basketball and cheerleading offered inside Campbell School (Norton Shores Parks and Recreation), football (Mona Shores Youth Club), and soccer (Sailor Soccer & Norton Shores Parks and Recreation). All of these fun activities are offered in and around our clean-safe neighborhood.

 

Highlights/Student & Community Focus

  • Kids Hope Mentor Program in partnership with Westwood Reformed Church
  • Super Sailor awards for outstanding citizenship, and for classrooms for “Good Choices”, and drawings for monthly lunch with the principal
  • 3rd grade Michigan Music program performed at the local Roosevelt Park nursing home
  • Reading Buddies
  • Handwriting Class in partnership with Baker college students
  • 5th grade students running Field Day activities
  • Positive improvement on the MEAP in math and reading subject areas
  • Title 1 funds are used to provide individual and small group tutorial for students at-risk, Kindergarten through 2nd grade during the school day
  • Spring Student Talent Show
  • Strings Program for 5th grade students
  • State of the Art COW's (computers on wheels)
  • Destination Imagination state competitors
  • PTO-sponsored, Fall Festival, Spirit Days (one per month), and School Carnival
  • Career Fair (3rd Grade, run by our 3rd grade team)
  • 5th grade students vs. staff softball game at end-of-year
  • Campbell TV News, written and produced weekly by Mary Beth Liskey and student anchors 
  • Active PTO – major fundraising resulted in $16,000, which supported students through library books, classroom materials, field trips, fall festival, assemblies, accelerated reading tools, and a school carnival that is enjoyed by students, parents, and the community  
  • 2nd grade community walk through downtown Roosevelt park businesses
  • 5th grade students participating in the Beach Clean-up project
  • 5th grade Parents vs. Staff Basketball game/fundraiser
  • Junior Achievement (Grades 4 & 5)
  • Art Night for students and parents with famous artists during each march is Reading Month
  • Extended day programs before/after school tutorial students with academic struggles
