ELIGIBILITY:

• Students must be 14 years, 8 months by the first class for Segment 1.
  Students must have 20/40 or better corrected vision. Vision Screening required prior to 1st Class (you may provide proof from your own provider at the time of registration).  In the event that a student fails this vision test, corrected vision information must be submitted prior to first class.
• Students must have no uncontrolled health problems related to seizures.

     
SEGMENT I COURSE REQUIREMENTS & FEES:

• 24 hours of classroom instruction – Students are permitted only one (1) classroom absence and it must be made up at the end of the class session. If a student misses more than one (1) class, the student will be withdrawn from the class and no refunds issued. The student may reapply for a later class session, however the entire fee must be repaid.  Two tardies equal an absence.
• 6 hours of behind-the-wheel driving instruction – Students are permitted only one driving absence and it must be made up. If it is not possible to arrange the make-up drive within the remaining driving sessions, the student must pay for the make-up session in the amount of $30.00 per driving session.

The fee for the Segment I course is $365.00 ($30 is non-refundable).  A $65.00  deposit is due with the application and the remaining balance due 30 days prior to the first class. Mona Shores Public Schools reserves the right to cancel a class with insufficient enrollment. Cancellations received no later than 5 days prior to the first class are subject to a $30.00 cancellation fee. Refunds will NOT be issued if received less than 5 days prior to the first class. All prices are subject to change.   If a student is withdrawn due to disruptive behavior, inappropriate conduct, suspension or expulsion, class fee will NOT be refunded.


SEGMENT II COURSE REQUIREMENTS & FEES: 

SEGMENT II includes three classroom sessions of two hours each focusing on defensive driving. The following criteria must be met to begin Segment II:

• Students must have completed Segment I successfully.
• Possess a Level I License for minimum of three [3] months.
• Students must have driven with parent/guardian on a Level I license for 30 hours, two of which must be at night.
• It is the students’ responsibility to sign up for Segment II.
  

FEES: $45.00 for Segment II.  A $10.00 processing fee will be applied to any cancellations received before the first day of class. No refunds will be given for cancellations on or after the first day of class.

LEVEL II DRIVER’S LICENSE The Level II driver’s license allows the student to drive alone (with the exception of the hours between midnight and 5 a.m. unless for employment or with parental/guardian permission.)

• Students must be at least 16 years of age.
• Students must have completed driving requirements for Level I license.
• Must have possessed Level I license for at least six months.
• Must have completed Segment II.
• Student must complete 50 hours drive time, 10 of which must be at night. (The 30 hours driving completed for the Level I license can be included in the 50 hours drive time.)
• Student must have had no moving violation within 90 days prior to application.
• Pass a road test by a certified examiner.
• Must provide Social Security Number at Secretary of State’s Office.
  

LEVEL III DRIVER’S LICENSE Full driving privileges may be applied for if these requirements are met:

• Must be at least 17 years of age.
• Must have possessed a Level II license for at least six months.
• Must have completed twelve consecutive months without a moving violation or accident resulting in a moving violation.
• Must have completed twelve consecutive months without a suspension or a restricted period violation.

• STUDENTS MUST BRING A PENCIL TO EACH CLASS
• STUDENTS MUST BRING THEIR DRIVING LOG SIGNED AND TOTALED BY PARENT TO THE FIRST CLASS
